Joe Morris
Joe was never discouraged by all the naysayers who told him "not to go into the cattle business." A native of San Francisco, Joe used to visit the ranch as a child and get up at 5:30 a.m. to have breakfast with his grandfather, J.J. Baumgartner. After a bowl of cereal with whole cream and a bear claw from the San Juan Bakery, they would go out to check the water and move the cattle. He's been hooked ever since. He graduated from The Great Books Program at the University of Notre Dame, went to live in Venezuela for two years, attended the Graduate Theological Union at the University of California, Berkeley, and worked on the Spanish Ranch in Tuscarora, Nevada. Today, he still gets up at 5:30 (while the rest of us sleep!), makes nutritious oatmeal and smoothies for our breakfast, and then is off to check the water and tend the animals and soil that he loves.
